the University of Kentucky Opera Theatre
Lexington, Kentucky

Opera Theatre Workshop is a two-week, highly intensive pre-professional training program offering a multi-faceted approach to the art of opera performance. The workshop provides undergraduate and graduate students opportunities that will help prepare them for entry into this competitive field. Skills such as stage movement, costuming, make-up and the application of acting techniques unique to the operatic genre are covered, in addition to vocal technique.

Private voice lessons can be arranged during the workshop based on the availability of instructors. This can be arranged once the workshop begins (or possibly in advance, given notice) and will require an additional instructor's fee.

The Lexington Opera Society has presented this annual spring workshop for more than 15 years, attracting students from across the country and abroad. The number of students is limited in order to assure that each participant receives individual attention.

The schedule will include daily master classes, scene rehearsals, vocal coaching, and stage movement. The workshop culminates with a live performance of opera scenes onstage with full costumes, makeup and lighting. Community opera lovers and local students of music eagerly attend this dynamic evening.

The Lexington Opera Society seeks to enhance the general public's awareness of opera in Central Kentucky and throughout the Commonwealth by providing educational programs about opera. All programs, activities and services are provided equally without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, age, sex or disability.
